PRINCIPALS THOUGHT
It was great to catch up with many of our families at this week’s Meet the
Community event and again at our Bike to School and Have Breakfast Day. The
enthusiasm you are showing for your child’s learning and the school itself
is fantastic and we all really appreciate your support.
Next week you are invited to “Coffee with Friends” on Wednesday morning in
the hall at 9am (after Breakfast Club). This is the first 2010 meeting of
our parent liaison group called “Friends.” This group has worked hard over
the last three years to support the school with fundraising, event
organisation, classroom support and social get-togethers but numbers have
dwindled and it is time to re-establish the group and set some goals for the
year. If you are interested in finding out more, join us for coffee – we’d
especially like to encourage new parents to our school to come along as this
is a great way to meet others but EVERYONE is invited!
Also next week a summary of our current assessment timetable and report
format will be sent home for your ideas and feedback. We are reviewing this
area of our school operation and would really value your input into what it
is you’d like us to report on and in what format. It is important to us that
you understand the information we provide about your child’s progress and
know just how well they are achieving at school so do take the time to share
your thoughts.
In the meantime enjoy the rest of your week and a well deserved weekend!
Barbara
Cycle Trains
We desperately need more volunteers for our cycle trains as staff will not
always be available to supervise these before and after school. If you are
interested, leave a message at the office for Barbara to give you a call.
Thank you to our existing super cyclists - Heidi, Catherine, Fiona and
Nicola. You’re awesome!

Breakfast Club
Thanks to this week’s Breakfast helpers and to those offering assistance
next week. If anyone is able to give up ½ an hour each Monday or Wednesday,
please leave a message at the office for Mrs Gibson. We’d also really
appreciate any donations of fresh fruit, jams, preserves or perhaps a tub of
margarine, vegemite or honey to support this venture and make the children’s
weetbix and toast more attractive!
Thanks very much to Sarah Crowther and Heidi Willers for supplying us with
their homemade jam!!!

You are invited to our first Friends meeting for 2010. 9 am, Wednesday 23rd
Feb in the hall. New school parents are encouraged to attend as this is a
great way to meet others. All welcome.
Early Arrivals at School
Many children are arriving at school well before 8.20am.
Please be aware that there is no supervision at school prior to 8.20am.
Teachers are of ten unavailable to supervise prior to this time due to other

arrive at school early they must sit on the steps outside the library.
Student Attendance
Regular school attendance is always important and even more so at present
due to annual testing requirements.
Art Shirts
Please send along an old shirt for all children to cover their new uniforms
during art lessons.
School Hats - Are back in stock!!!
We have 4 different sizes in the school bucket hat. If your child requires
one, please send $16 to school with them and
Bus Fares
Bus pass Invoices will be distributed to all families that live out of our
school zone, and have chosen to use the school bus service. These remain
unchanged and are charged as follows:
·
$35 per pupil per term, with a maximum of $70 per family per term, payable
by the end of Week 3 of each term.
Please note that these rates are fixed regardless of whether your
child/children use the service fully i.e. a couple of times per week.
(The bus contractor insists that that the bus fees are paid in full by the
end of Week 3 of this term, and the bus drivers will refuse transport to
those children not carrying the current bus pass for the term).
Around The Classes
Year 6 Students
The Year 6 students in Room 7 are using the produce in the school garden to
create yummy food on a Thursday when the Y7 students go to Motec.
Last week we found 2 huge scallopini in the garden, some corn, tomatoes and
zuchinni. We made stuffed scallopini and savoury scones. The recipe for the
scallopini is printed below. Corbin made it again in the weekend for his
family.
Scallopini is a vegetable that we grow in the school garden and is from the
zucchini family but is shaped like a scallop and is bright yellow in colour.
There were two big ones in the school garden and today we made up a recipe
with the ingredients Mrs Cameron had brought.
Ingredients:
Scallopini
Bread
Milk
Grated cheese
Onion
Bacon
Tomatoes
Method:
Chop the onion and bacon finely and gently fry in a small amount of oil or
butter.
Dice tomatoes into small pieces.
Cut up into the bread into small cubes and place in a bowl.
Add the grated cheese, onion, bacon, tomatoes to the bread and mix with
enough milk to wet the mixture.
Season with salt and pepper,
Cut a circle around the top of the scallopini and carefully remove – keep it
as it will be the lid!
Carefully scoop out the seeds and don’t make a hole in the bottom!
Spoon the mixture in the bowl into the cavity and put the lid on top.
Bake at 200 degrees C for about 45 mins.
Remove the lid and cut into wedges.
You can also use the same mixture in zucchinis that have grown into marrows.
Cut length wise, scoop out seeds, fill with mixture then wrap in tin foil
and bake as above. Yummy!
Try these recipes out on your family. If you don’t have a garden I am sure
you will be able to get one from a friend or neighbour as every gardener has
them growing like mad in their garden at the moment!

Sophia mixing the savoury scones that had grated zuchinni, red onion, diced
tomatoes and cheese. These make a nice change from sandwiches and you can
cram them full of vegies for a healthy and filling lunch. They freeze well
and you can make a batch then get a couple out of the freezer each morning.

Corban carefully removed the seeds and flesh from the middle of the
scallopinis while Isaac diced the onions.
