Enrolment Scheme Description

Effective from 01 March 2021

The guidelines for development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under section 11G (3) of the Education Act 1989 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

The Home Zone takes addresses on both sides of the boundary roads mentioned in the description unless otherwise stated.

Starting from the end of Rosedale Farm Road, the home zone follows:

• North on Rosedale Farm Road until Waiwhero Road

• East Waiwhero Road until Ridge Road

  • Including Mill Road,

  • Including Harry Jacks Road,

  • And including Baigents Plantation Road

• South on Ridge Road until Majuba Road

  • Including Burma Road,

  • Including Ridge Road to the south of Majuba Road,

  • Including Boyd Road,

  • And including Wilkinson Road

• North-east on Majuba Road until Holdaway Road

• East on Holdaway Road until Central Road

• South-east on Central Road until Wills Road

• North-east on Wills Road until Moutere Highway

  • Including Wills Road to the west of Central Road

• South-east on Moutere Highway until Harley Road

• North back along Moutere Highway until number 2138 Moutere Highway

• From 2138 Moutere Highway jumps north-east to the end of Newports Road

• North then east along Newports Road until Tasman View Road

• North on the eastern side of Tasman View Road until Seaview Avenue

• North-west on School Road until Main Road Lower Moutere

  • Including Seaview Avenue

  • And including Lindup Road

• North on Main Road Lower Moutere until Wildman Road

  • Including Robinson Road,

  • Including The Coastal Highway (SH 60) from Robinson Road until Moana Loop,

  • And including Rowling Loop

• West on Hursthouse Street until Starnes Road

  • Including Queen Victoria Street up to Hau Road,

  • Including Wildman Road down to but not including 100 Wildman Road,

  • And including Chamberlain Street between Hursthouse Street and College Street

  • Including Hursthouse Street to the west of Starnes Road

• South on Waiwhero Road until Ridge Road.

Special Programmes

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a Special programme approved by the Secretary.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the Board of Trustees will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

• First Priority This priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.

• Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

• Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

• Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

• Fifth Priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

• Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary. Under Section 11G (1) on the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.

Enrolling as a New Entrant at Lower Moutere School 

Welcome to our school! We have an amazing environment for starting school! Please come and make yourselves welcome to visit our New Entrant Class, our teacher, Maureen Wilkinson and Principal in preparation for starting school!

We do encourage pre-school visits before your child starts school, as this helps them feel more familiar with the school environment before officially starting.

So – what will you see in the new entrant class?

The morning programme is very exciting as we run a unique programme known as ‘Discovery Time’. This is an activity based programme that focuses not only on curriculum learning, but also developing key competencies – the skills that children need to be successful learners. Discovery learning will support your child to develop as a whole person – social, emotional, physical and cognitive, through the exciting opportunities that they will engage in quickly!

In the afternoons, the class will focus on Topic studies – just like the rest of the school, sports, school assembly, or any other event that may be happening at school. The day does have lots of learning – in really exciting and innovative ways!

During visits, your child may want to observe, or as is usually the case, join in happily. Parents/caregivers may stay if they wish.

Our new entrant class is well resourced, and provides an amazing environment for your child's start to school.

When you enrol your child, you will need to bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation records.

Enrolling at our school Years 1-8 

So you’re not a new entrant …however are looking at enrolling at our school!

The process is really straight forward! Coming in to visit, phoning or even an email is fine. We are more than happy to talk you through what our school has to offer, and answer any questions that you might have.

When enrolling, you need to bring the following to the school office:

• A birth certificate

• Where possible an immunisation certificate

• Any information that you have about medical conditions that your child may have.

• Information from your childs previous school

• Its always a good idea to have the books and other materials from the previous school

We will gladly show you around the school, introduce you to the class that your child will be in, and if possible, you can have a talk with your child’s new teacher.

The Principal will always be available to talk with you too!
